Dirvitas dolomite powder

Dolomite powder effectively inhibits soil acidification and prevents the formation of high concentrations of aluminium, improves the physical and chemical characteristics and structure of soil, promotes more efficient uptake of organic and mineral fertilisers, encourages the development of micro-organisms beneficial to plants, and supplements soil with calcium, promoting plant growth and strengthening plant root systems, and magnesium, activating photosynthesis. Dolomite powder uniformly distributes in soil, almost does not adhere to the surface of the spreader and tools when moist, and is quickly absorbed into soil.

Composition: calcium oxide (CaO) – 30%; magnesium oxide (MgO) – 20%; calcium carbonate (CaCO3) – 51%; magnesium carbonate (MgCO3) – 42%; total carbonates (CaCO3 + MgCO3) – not less than 85%.

Application: natural carbonate fertiliser (ameliorant) powder for the liming of soil and neutralisation of peat.

Effects of application: most cultivated plants normally grow and are fertile only in non-acidic soil, so soil with a pH level below 5 needs to be limed. The liming of soil gives plant roots better conditions for the uptake of nutrient substances and improves the activity of micro-organisms (their enzymes become more active). Soil with a pH level below 5 contains very low amounts of atmospheric nitrogen-fixing bacteria. Acidic soil also has lower concentrations of other bacteria, which leads to slower degradation of plant residues and, consequently, poorer plant nutrition. Deprived of necessary nutrients, plants are weak and are more exposed to diseases and pests.

Recommendations for use: dolomite powder is used in open ground, greenhouses, and plant growing containers. Pour dolomite powder and introduce it into the soil before sowing (planting) or after harvesting. The optimal time for applying dolomite powder is spring (after snow melt) and late autumn. The average fertiliser application rate is 300 g/m2. Around bushes and trees, apply the fertiliser within the width of a whisk broom. When fertilising a lawn, dolomite powder must be applied over two applications. Periodicity of dolomite powder application: every two to three years. Neutralised peat preparation: 6 kg dolomite powder for 1,000 l (1 m3) of acidic peat.
